Annual Fund & Donor Growth Manager
Second Heart Homes | Sarasota, Florida
Full-time, in-person, exempt
$75,000+ Salary | 100% Employer-Paid Health & Dental
Flexible start date for the right candidate
About the Role
Have you ever seen someone experiencing homelessness and wanted to be part of a real, lasting solution?
Second Heart Homes is looking for an experienced fundraiser who loves meeting people, building meaningful relationships, and turning those connections into financial support that helps adults living with mental illness rebuild their lives after homelessness.
We intentionally operate without government funding, relying primarily on individual donors and private foundations.
You’ll lead our annual fund, build donor relationships, make personal solicitations, and create compelling communications that inspire long-term giving. We have an established donor base and development systems, with opportunities to strengthen existing relationships and cultivate new supporters.
Our fundraising is relationship-driven, not event-driven, with just one major annual event, and it’s not a gala!
You’ll report directly to our Executive Director, who leads major gifts and provides strategic direction, while you manage annual fund growth and day-to-day development activities.
About Second Heart Homes
Second Heart Homes began in 2019 with an unexpected friendship with a man who had experienced homelessness for 25 years. Today, we provide housing, support, and love for 86 formerly homeless adults living with mental illness across 14 homes (and counting).
With 16 full-time employees, debt-free properties, and more than $10 million raised since our founding, we’re proof of what’s possible when a community believes in a mission and invests in its success.

What You’ll Do
Fundraising & Donor Relationships
- Own and grow the annual fund through donor cultivation, personal solicitations, acquisition, retention, reactivation, upgrades, recurring giving, and appeals.
- Manage annual fund and mid-level donor portfolios while identifying major-gift prospects for the Executive Director.
- Conduct donor meetings and volunteer discovery calls to build relationships and identify giving opportunities.
- Maintain an active fundraising pipeline, track results, and report progress toward fundraising goals.
- Occasional evenings and weekends are required for donor meetings and events.
Development Systems & Communications
- Manage our CRM, donor segmentation, fundraising calendar, reporting, acknowledgments, and stewardship processes.
- Write compelling appeals, newsletters, direct mail campaigns, and donor communications while coordinating with outside marketing partners.
- Use development systems to strengthen relationships and raise money, not just manage processes.
Grants & Events
- Manage private foundation grants with Executive Director support.
- Help grow and plan our annual Hands Up for Homes Art Auction with the Executive Director and volunteers.
- Pursue select corporate sponsorships and fundraising opportunities.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience with a proven record of personally securing donations.
- Natural relationship builder who enjoys networking and making direct asks.
- Strong independent writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to create original, compelling content.
- Experience with donor portfolios, campaigns, CRM systems, and stewardship.
- Strong initiative, judgment, organization, and follow-through.
How We’ll Measure Success
You’ll help sustain and grow annual fund revenue through donor retention, increased giving, new relationships, and identifying major-gift prospects. You’ll work alongside the Executive Director, who leads major gifts, with measurable goals that reflect your responsibilities and evolve as donor relationships develop.
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting salary $75,000+, based on fundraising experience and success.
- 100% employer-paid Florida Blue HMO health and dental, valued at $17,000 annually, with PPO buy-up option.
- 20 days PTO, four floating holidays, and three paid holidays.
- Professional development and leadership growth opportunities.
