SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Second Heart Homes said it received a $600,000 grant from the Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation to expand permanent supportive housing in Sarasota or Manatee County.

The grant will also pay for three years of individualized case management. Second Heart Homes said those services connect residents with primary care, psychiatry, therapy and income assistance while helping them build daily living skills.

“A home gives someone a place to begin again, but lasting stability takes time,” said Megan Howell, Second Heart Homes’ executive director and founder. “Barancik Foundation understands that. This grant gives us the ability not only to open another home, but to be there for residents in the years that follow as they rebuild their health, independence and lives.”

Second Heart Homes said it operates 14 homes serving 86 people. The organization recently expanded its staff and board, the organization said.
