Modern Jazz Mass for a New Humanity is a ground-breaking, multi-movement work by Steven Phillips using jazz styles to explore new meanings of the traditional mass in the modern world. The music draws from blues, rock, pop, dixieland and jazz styles and is interlaced with the words of contemporary poets and texts from various spiritual traditions including Maya Angelou and Wendell Berry. Accompanying the Via Nova Chorale are top regional and national jazz musicians including Maicy Powell, Victor Mongillo, Isaac Mingus, Mark DeRose, Fernando Cruz, Mark Feinman and Simon Lasky. Presented in appreciation for Second Heart Homes and the groundbreaking work of its founder, Megan Howell, of bringing community, help, and dignity to homeless persons. Students college and under admitted free.
