Meet Sean Downing, M.D.

Dr. Sean Downing — our Irish guardian angel — has been providing ad hoc emergency medical services to Second Heart Homes clients since 2020. Refilling vital medications, conducting emergency consultations, performing lab work and doing health exams are just some of the services that this busy doctor and his nurses provide to our clients free of charge. For this, we are deeply grateful.

The son of immigrant parents from County Kerry, Ireland, Dr. Downing has been a practicing primary care physician for more than 20 years. He graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine and later came to Sarasota to work for First Physicians Group, where he spent 11 years caring for families. After that, he went on to practice at Sarasota Personal Medicine, a concierge medical firm. In 2019, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of opening his own family concierge medical practice in Sarasota — a first for the community. Here, he is able to treat family members across the generations, just as physicians did in the old days.

During his spare time, Dr. Downing enjoys entertaining family and friends from Ireland and Boston — that is, when he can’t get back to The Emerald Isle himself.
