A new system for second chances

September 18, 2026

Second Heart Homes provides permanent supportive housing, paired with individualized case management, for adults who experienced homelessness and/or substance-use disorders.

The organization recently announced the receipt of a $15,000 capacity-building grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. The funding was made possible through the Zella I. and Junius F. Allen Fund.

The grant will fund new case management software, replacing manual documentation and data collection. It will also track factors including employment and income, and significant milestones.

“Behind every resident is a team that needs to know what’s working, where someone may be struggling and when additional support is needed,” said Megan Howell, executive director and founder of Second Heart Homes, in a media release.
